Snowflake Obsidian stones hang on sleek, hammered Argentium – The Finest Sterling Silver. I form the wire into a dangle style earring, gently curving it around a wooden circular mold, then hammer its end for a sleek, modern look.
Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed in swiftly cooling lava that has a high silica content. Snowflake obsidian gets its name and patterns from cristobalite (a type of quartz) inclusions formed in the obsidian as it devitrifies.
Argentium – The Finest Silver – is a purer version of Sterling Silver that is also highly tarnish resistant. Standard “Sterling Silver” is an alloy composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Thus, you see “925 Sterling Silver”.
Argentium is made with 93.5% silver and 6.5% other metals, including germanium and copper, which gives Argentium additional beneficial properties for jewelry makers. For my jewelry, the biggest benefit of using Argentium instead of regular Sterling Silver is that it is much more tarnish resistant.
In addition, Argentium is responsibly manufactured, ethically sourced, and certified to be made with 100% recycled silver.
